body

Purpose

The purpose of this memorandum is to provide information to the Franklin Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BOMA) concerning the Parks Department’s intention to submit a grant application to the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council (TUFC) for a Tennessee Agricultural Enhancement Program (TAEP) grant.

Background

In previous years, the Parks Department has received TAEP grants for tree planting in the City. This year, TUFC is managing the TAEP grant process. The Parks Department intends to use the grant and matching funds to plant approximately three hundred eighty-six (386) trees at the City Water Plant located at 846 Lewisburg Pike. The grants are to be awarded on November 1, 2019 and must be completed by April 30, 2020.

Financial Impact

The TAEP grant is a 50/50 matching grant. The Parks Department is requesting $20,000 from the grant. The City’s Tree Commission is recommending the use of $20,000 of Tree Bank Funds to provide the match for the grant.

Recommendation

Staff recommends the Board of Mayor and Aldermen approve Resolution 2019-57 to allow the Parks Department to apply for a TAEP grant for 2019.
