*Consideration of City of Franklin Contract No. 2018-0204 for the Federal Preservation Grant for Completion of National Register Listing Update for Hincheyville Historic District. (10/23/18 WS)
body
Purpose
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide information to the Franklin Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BOMA) concerning a request for approval to enter into a grant contract with the Tennessee Historical Commission (THC) for monetary assistance with the completion of an update to the Hincheyville Historic District National Register listing.
Background
The THC administers an annual grant program for eligible historic preservation projects on behalf of the federal government. The THC has offered to award the City of $6,000 grant toward the completion of the National Register listing update. The update includes undertaking the research, photography, and writing of an amendment to the existing listing to provide updated information on properties within the current boundaries of the Hincheyville Historic District. The update will identify and document any additional contributing properties based on an expanded period of significance.
Financial Impact
The THC has offered to extend the City a 60/40 match grant to fund the completion of the update. The update is estimated to cost approximately $10,000, and the THC will contribute 60 percent of the cost. The City’s match (up to $4,000) has been allocated within the Planning and Sustainability Department budget.
