Discussion of Sanitation & Environmental Services Operations

body

Purpose

The purpose of this memorandum is to provide information to the Franklin Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BOMA) concerning services and operations within the Sanitation and Environmental Services (SES) Department.

Background

The SES Department provided an array of individual collection services over 1.9 million times in FY 2017.  These services ranged from the department’s cores services of residential collection and recycling to brush removal, yard bag collection and commercial collection.  Over the last several months the SES Department has been developing a cost of service analysis, preparing budget documents and performing an ongoing evaluation of operations.

The intent of the discussion and presentation for this Work Session is to present to the BOMA some of the challenges facing the SES Department and to elicit feedback to help refine assumptions for the cost of service and recommendations for ongoing operations.
