Consideration of Including Provisions In The City's Addressing Manual That Would Allow Developers Of New Subdivisions The Option Of Naming New Streets After City Of Franklin Veterans Who Died In The Line Of Duty.

Purpose
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide information to the Franklin Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BOMA) concerning a proposal by City of Franklin resident, Stephen Arends who is requesting consideration of allowing developers of projects that include new streets the option of naming the new streets after City of Franklin Veterans who died in the line of duty.
Background
The City of Chula Vista, California is one of several communities that have developed a street naming program for Veterans who died in the line of duty. The process Chula Vista established follows with minor changes should we implement a similar process in Franklin:
1. Submit the name of the veteran for the proposed new street name in conjunction with the City's development review process. (Lori Jarosz is responsible for administering the City's Addressing Manual).
2. The proposed street name is compared to an existing street name database that includes all street names that have been used or reserved for all of Williamson County to avoid similar or duplicate street names. Duplicate or proposed names (in spelling or sound i.e., Silva vs Silvas) are not approved.
3. If proposed name clears the City initial review, the proposed name is presented by staff to the appropriate veterans organization such as the Williamson County Veterans Services Office or a city of Franklin VFW Post for further consideration and recommendation.
