Purpose

The purpose of this memorandum is to provide information to the Franklin Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BOMA) concerning a Corridor Management Agreement for State Route 6 (US-31).

 

Background

This Corridor Management Agreement is a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that provides a framework for the management of State Route 6 (SR-6/US-31) by the following agencies:

 

                     Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT),

                     Nashville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO),

                     Williamson County,

                     Maury County,

                     City of Franklin,

                     Town of Thompson’s Station,

                     City of Spring Hill, and

                     City of Columbia

 

The list of goals identified for the corridor include:

 

                     Improve Regional Transportation for Local Residents, Commuters, and Freight;

                     Controlling Access/Safety;

                     Multimodal Operations;

                     Coordination between Municipalities, School Systems, and Local Businesses;

                     Education of Alternative Routes; and

                     Improving streetscape along the corridor.

 

The primary strategies identified for achieving these goals are:

 

                     Access Management;

                     Traffic Management and Operations/ITS;

                     Land Use Planning; and

                     Roadway Design and Capacity.

 

The agreement and subsequent meetings will be coordinated by TDOT.

 

Financial Impact

There is no direct financial impact with this agreement.  This agreement is simply a MOU between the participating agencies to work collaboratively and cooperatively to achieve the listed goals.
