body

Purpose

The purpose of this memorandum is to provide information to the Franklin Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BOMA) concerning Resolution 2017-44, A Resolution Adopting a Policy for the Use, Maintenance, and Retention of Security Video Cameras on City-Owned Properties.

Background

Video security cameras have been and will be installed in City garages, on City parking lots, and in other City-owned facilities to help ensure the safety of citizens, visitors, and employees. City staff have drafted the attached proposed policy to govern the use, maintenance, and retention of such security video cameras and recordings. The policy provides, among other things, that the City’s IT Department will manage the cameras, and that recordings will be retained by the City for 30 days unless otherwise needed for civil or criminal action.

Financial Impact

The cost of the security cameras has already been contemplated by the budget. There is no additional financial impact associated with this resolution.
