Presentation on Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan Development

body

Purpose

The purpose of this memorandum is to provide information to the Franklin Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BOMA) concerning the self-evaluation of City programs and services and the development of a Transition Plan, as required by the ADA.

Background

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 requires public entities to evaluate their current “services, polices, and practices” with regard to accessibility for all citizens.  In addition, any public entity that employs 50 or more people, including full-time, part-time, and seasonal workers, must create a Transition Plan to come into compliance with the ADA.

Financial Impact

No financial impact at this time.  Staff is working on final development and review of a professional services agreement to develop a Transition Plan.  This professional services agreement will be presented in the near future.

Recommendation

No recommendation at this time.  This is a presentation designed to inform the Board of this issue.
