Purpose
The purpose of this memo is to provide information to the Franklin Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BOMA) concerning Ordinance 2015-68 to set new speed limits on Long Lane, north of Peytonsville Road.
Background
Prior to the realignment of Long Lane, as a part of the Goose Creek Bypass and I-65 Interchange Project by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), the existing speed limit on Long Lane was forty-five miles per hour (45 MPH), with an advisory speed posting of twenty-five miles per hour (25 MPH) at the sharp curve, which is between I-65 and the Williamson County Ag Expo Park (see attached Exhibit A). The realigned portion of Long Lane was designed for a speed limit of thirty five miles per hour (35 MPH) and posted at thirty miles per hour (30 MPH) (see attached Exhibit B).
Recently Engineering Department staff completed a speed study and an engineering evaluation of Long Lane, including the recently realigned section, and recommended new speed limits.
The Engineering Department recommends that the speed limits for Long Lane be set as follows:
* Thirty-five miles per hour (35 MPH), in both directions, from Peytonsville Road to just north of the Williamson County Ag Expo Park, and
* Forty-five miles per hour (45 MPH), in both directions, from just north of the Williamson County Ag Expo Park to the City Limits.
