body
Purpose
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide information to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BOMA) concerning the preliminary design options for the Columbia Avenue Widening Project.
Background
On May 17, 2016, City staff, along with the design team at Barge Waggoner Sumner & Cannon, Inc. (BWSC) hosted the first of three (3) public involvement meetings concerning the Columbia Avenue Widening Project. The meeting was well attended and provided a significant amount of feedback from citizens about this project.
The design team used this feedback, along with additional data, to develop three (3) preliminary design options for the corridor. These options include:
• 5-Lane Section with Two-Way Left Turn Lane and Traffic Signals
• 4-Lane Median Divided Section with Turn Lanes as Needed and Traffic Signals
• 4-Lane Median Divided Section with Roundabouts at Major Intersections
On Tuesday, January 31, 2017, City staff and the BWSC team will present these preliminary design options at a second public meeting. The meeting will be held at City Hall, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a formal presentation at 6:30 PM. The additional feedback obtained from this meeting will help guide the final design chosen for the Columbia Avenue Widening Project.
Staff appreciates the opportunity to present this information to the BOMA.
