body

Purpose
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide information to the Franklin Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BOMA) concerning the sale of one (1) surplus 2009 Kenworth T80 road tractor to Bi-County Solid Waste Management for use in hauling waste from the City-owned transfer station to the Bi-County landfill.

Background
This road tractor was purchased as a used truck in 2011.  In May of 2012, the City began contracting with Bi-County to haul its solid waste to their landfill.  Since that time, the City has used this truck and others in our fleet to shuttle loaded and empty transfer trailers. We are now in the process of purchasing a yard tractor, a smaller tractor made for the purpose of shuttling transfer trailers in and around the City-owned transfer station during daily operations. Upon delivery of the yard tractor, this 2009 Kenworth road tractor will be surplus.

The Bi-County Solid Waste Management Board has approved the purchase of this road tractor for $50,000.

Financial Impact
The estimated value of this Kenworth road tractor is approximately $60,000. Selling this surplus truck to Bi-County will prevent the City from incurring expenses associated with the auction process as well as assure the City of a reasonable price for the surplus tractor.
