body
Purpose
The purpose of this memo is to provide information to the Franklin Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BOMA) concerning the need for additional Axon Fleet 2 equipment for new 2020 police patrol units.
Background
In 2019 FPD switched to the Axon Fleet 1 in-car camera system to work with the Axon body worn cameras that were implemented in June of 2018.
FPD has purchased 15 new marked patrol units that will be upfitted with the Axon Fleet 2 camera system. This system consists of multiple components that allow the in-car system to start recording when the lights/siren are activated, in addition it allows the officer to categorize the multiple videos that are created during their normal daily operations. The system allows officers MDT’s connectivity to the wi-fi system that the city has created for the patrol units.
Financial Impact
The cost of the equipment to upfit the 15 new 2020 marked patrol units is $9160.55. This dollar amount is in the police 2020 fiscal year vehicle capital budget.
