body
Purpose
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide information to the Franklin Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BOMA) concerning membership requirements of the Franklin Sustainability Commission.
Background
The Franklin Sustainability Commission is a Mayoral appointed commission created in 2009. The Commission provides input on projects, policies, and best practices related to energy conservation, waste reduction, public outreach, and other sustainability topics. The Commission includes a representative from the BOMA, the local utilities, and the Franklin Tomorrow Board of Directors. Six at-large members make up the remaining seats and everyone serves a three-year term. One of the requirements for serving is residency within the Franklin Urban Growth Boundary (UGB).
Citizens who work for Williamson County Schools and Williamson Inc. have expressed interest in the past to serve on the Commission, but were ineligible because they lived outside of the UGB. The Commission believes allowing individuals with Franklin ties and professional connections to serve would be beneficial to the community and help create the most comprehensive and complete membership possible. The Commission seeks to amend the eligibility requirements to allow citizens who live outside of the Franklin Urban Growth Boundary (UGB) to serve on the Commission.
