Consideration of Funding for Masonic Hall Rehabilitation Study

body

Purpose

The purpose of this memo is to provide an opportunity for the Franklin Budget & Finance Committee to discuss a $15,000 funding request regarding the historic Masonic Hall Building.

Background

Because of its failing condition, the Masonic Hall building requires rehabilitation to assure its structural integrity.  It is on the historic register and the current owners are requesting funding from the State, Williamson County, and the City of Franklin to conduct a study of the scope and cost of work that is necessary to restore the building to an acceptable condition.  The building is one of the oldest inside the City boundaries and is on the national register of historic buildings.

Financial Impact

The funding request is for $15,000, or one-fourth of the projected amount necessary to conduct the study.

Recommendation

rec

Staff recommends including the funding request with other funding requests for the Fiscal Year 2016-2017 budget.  Those funding requests will be presented to the Budget & Finance Committee at its April meeting and, if approved, will travel with appropriations to other non-profit organizations in the proposed FY17 budget.
