Purpose
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide information to the Franklin Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BOMA) concerning the proposed ordinance that amends the adopted Residential Code to align with the minimum State requirements for fire sprinklers in townhomes.

Background
The State Fire Marshal's Office (SFMO) conducted an audit of Franklin's Residential Inspection program and found that Fire and Building and Neighborhood Service (BNS) should be enforcing the State's amended minimum fire sprinkler provisions for townhomes.  The corrective action needed by the SFMO takes the form of adopting the same language in our local ordinance as is in the State law.

Financial Impact
Administering the updated regulations will not generate a financial impact.

Recommendation
Staff recommends approval of this ordinance in order to successfully complete the Plan of Corrective Action requested by the State Fire Marshal's Office.
