(WS 3/10/20)
body
Purpose
The purpose of this memorandum is to provide information to the Franklin Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BOMA) concerning two grant applications which the Planning and Parks Departments intend to submit for preservation grant funds to be used on ironwork restoration at City Cemetery and continued window restoration at the Historic Hayes Home.
Background
The State Historic Preservation Office is accepting grant applications for historic preservation projects. The Parks and Planning Departments desire to submit two applications for historic restoration. First, the ironwork in portions of City Cemetery is in disrepair and requires restoration be performed to avoid total loss. Grant funds will be used to perform necessary restoration to iron fencing. Second, in 2019 the Parks Department began restoration work on the Historic Hayes Home’s windows and wishes to continue restoration work on the home’s exterior windows and interior transoms. Both projects ensure the Parks Department can maintain these properties properly for the current and future enjoyment of Franklin residents.
Financial Impact
The preservation grants are 60/40 matching grants. The ironwork restoration in City Cemetery is approximately Nine Thousand Dollars ($9,000) with the City’s portion being Three Thousand Six Hundred Dollars ($3,600). The window restoration at the Historic Hayes Home is approximately Twenty-Four Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($24,500) with the City’s portion being Nine Thousand Eight Hundred Dollars ($9,800).
