City of Franklin’s Unmanned Aircraft Vehicle (UAV) Policy (Drone Policy).

body

Purpose

The purpose of this memorandum is to inform the Franklin Board of Mayor and Aldermen (BOMA) of a new policy for the City’s use of unmanned aircraft vehicles (drones).

Background

The policy establishes operational guidelines and safety procedures for the City’s Unmanned Aircraft Vehicle (UAV) or “drone” and provides criteria of flight and filming parameters. The City’s UAV will only be used for City purposes, including, but not limited to, information and marketing, and the creation of City maps.

Financial Impact

The City has already purchased an Unmanned Aircraft Vehicle (UAV). This policy will dictate guidelines and safety procedures for the operation of the UAV. This policy will allow the City to purchase a drone insurance policy.

Recommendation

rec

The policy has been approved by the City Administrator per authority granted by the BOMA.
