title
Consideration of Resolution 2017-07, a Change to the Building and Neighborhood Services Organization Chart (02/09/17 Finance Committee 4-0).
body
Background
With the continued and growing development activity and an emphasis on efficient and thorough development services elevating the responsibilities and span of control of the City’s Zoning and Development Coordinator to Assistant Building and Neighborhood Services (BNS) Department Director will allow more than one person with director-level authority available to make decisions across the gamut of areas of responsibility. Quick decisions often save both applicants and staff weeks of time to approval and hours of work. BNS now has 35 personnel and responsibility for a wide range of review, inspection, and enforcement activities that are shared with other departments. Managing those extra-departmental relationships and assigning responsibility for group tasks at the inspector level across the organization is a key role. Additionally, the upgraded responsibilities of this position will coordinate use of Infor across several departments and manage relationships with the Technical Support Specialist group. The Assistant Director for BNS will be an advocate for the expanded use of Infor and guiding departments with limited exposure in methods and techniques for customizing Infor to their specific departmental needs.
Financial Impact
There will be no financial impact to the 2016-2017 budget due to vacancies within the department.
Recommendation
Staff recommends approval of Resolution 2017-07
